IBC Foundation hosts National League for Nursing Workshop on Advancing Care Excellence for Seniors

Full-day workshop focuses on how technology can improve care for seniors

WHAT:

The Independence Blue Cross (IBC) Foundation is hosting the third “Advancing Care Excellence (ACE) for Seniors” continuing education conference today at its headquarters in Philadelphia. The all-day workshop for nearly 200 nurses, clinicians, and other health care professionals is provided by the National League for Nursing in collaboration with the Community College of Philadelphia. The workshop is made possible in part by a grant from the IBC Foundation.

The conference will focus on how technology is radically changing health care delivery for older adults. This meeting is also the first opportunity for nurses to see a new virtual simulation technology – vSim for NursingTM directed at senior care. The tool allows nursing students to interact with a patient avatar as part of their course work, teaching students how to make decisions about how and when to communicate with the patient, decide which tests/assessments to run, and when and how to intervene or administer care.

At the conference the National Nursing League will also present the first IBC Foundation Excellence in Geriatric Education and Practice award to seven nurses. The award recognizes nurses who have incorporated ACEs conference and website information into innovative teaching strategies and models for caring for older adults.
