Over the past decade, the Foundation has invested in initiatives to improve access to care and awarded grants to nonprofit programs and services that reduce health disparities in underserved communities.
At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Foundation was one of the first to support new efforts to reach underserved communities by supporting the Black Doctors COVID Consortium to address disparate access to COVID-19 testing in Philadelphia’s neighborhoods.
The Foundation also funded a collaboration between Latino Connection and the Pennsylvania Department of Health to launch Community-Accessible Testing and Education (CATE), Pennsylvania's first COVID-19 mobile testing and bilingual education response unit.
In 2020, the Foundation also expanded its support for Caron Treatment Centers with a grant to increase access to world-class addiction treatment and recovery resources for Black patients and families. Caron Treatment Centers established The Black Patient Scholarship Fund in partnership with One Day At A Time Inc., a nonprofit community-based recovery organization.
In 2020, the Foundation awarded grants totaling $350,000 to promote equitable access to addiction treatment and COVID-19 testing and resources.
