The Foundation continues to serve as a leader to the region’s nonprofits. In 2020, the Foundation awarded grants totaling more than $1.1 million to help meet the increased needs in communities impacted the hardest from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Foundation support included grants totaling more than $600,000 to Blue Safety Net-supported health centers to modify services and safely deliver care, including the use of telehealth and dental practices.
The Foundation also stepped up as an early funder of the PHL COVID-19 Fund — a collaborative effort among philanthropy, business, government, and community leaders that rapidly deployed aid to nonprofits serving on the front lines of the coronavirus.
And, the Foundation launched a web-based learning platform, the Coalition U Community, through an ongoing partnership with the Urban Affairs Coalition to provide free, on-demand capacity-building resources and foster knowledge sharing among nonprofit organizations.
National leaders share insights about the pandemic’s impact on community health and nonprofits and their vision of a better safety net in a special edition of the Foundation’s Journal of Change, “Navigating Uncharted Waters: The COVID-19 Pandemic and the (Un)Certainties for Nonprofits.”
