Strengthening the HEALTH WORKFORCE

Nurturing the next generation of nurses.

Through 2024, the Independence Blue Cross (IBX) Foundation has awarded more than $19 million in grants to strengthen the health workforce.

Service Scholars®

The IBX Foundation Service Scholars Pathway Program is the only pathway program in the nation supporting student veterans pursuing their first degree in nursing. The program enhances the educational benefits provided by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Yellow Ribbon Program and provides colleges and universities with dedicated resources to support the success of student veterans beyond the academic setting. Beginning with five local nursing schools in 2023, the program has since expanded to seven.

Service Scholars was featured in an episode of "Military Makeover: Operation Career." The series promotes organizations that help veterans prepare for life and employment after service.

Healthcare Scholars

The IBX Foundation Healthcare Scholars Program empowers local students to become nurses. Eleven participating nursing schools provide students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing with full academic scholarships, academic support, and mentorship.

Nurses for Tomorrow®

The IBX Foundation Nurses for Tomorrow Scholarship Program is growing the nursing workforce. Through 2024, the IBX Foundation has awarded more than $16 million to provide more than 6,500 scholarships to undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral nursing students in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Twenty regional nursing schools participate in this program.

Nursing Internship Program

The IBX Foundation Nursing Internship Program is preparing future nurses. Through 2024, the paid, ten-week internship has engaged nearly 300 future nurses with experiential learning opportunities and introduced them to career options in community healthcare settings.
